You Have To Ask For It

RockBottomBecomesFoundation

You’ve heard it often, right? You don’t get what you don’t ask for. Or stated in the positive, you get what you ask for.

Oftentimes though, the truth is that you get what you settle for. Because let’s face it, when you believe your goals are too lofty or too hard, when you don’t fully believe you will accomplish them, you can find abundant reasons to back away from them.

Maybe your first attempt to accomplish your goal doesn’t work, and the bitter taste of failure lingers. And because you don’t spit it out, its nasty flavor leaches into your next steps. Not surprisingly, those next steps lead to another not-so-great outcome. After several rounds of that, you settle for less or give up entirely

I write this because I’ve lived this story. Too many times.

But I’ve learned there’s a tried and true way to get what you want:

BE CLEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT AND WHY YOU WANT IT, AND NEVER, EVER, ACCEPT OR ENTERTAIN THAT YOU WILL NOT HAVE IT.

No one can give up on your goals and dreams for you. You have to choose that option. Likewise, you can also choose to be a believer and decide to ask Life for exactly what you want and never settle for less than your request.

Again. Your choice.

“I bargained with Life for a penny,
And Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store.

For Life is a just employer,
and gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.

I worked for a menial’s hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have willingly paid”  – Jessie B. Rittenhouse

Don’t be a settler. Ask Life for what you want, work like your very life depends on it, and don’t accept anything less.

What you do next matters…
